Blood moves oxygen and nutrients around the body to nourish it, pumped by the heart which is a pump made of muscle that is roughly the size of our fist. It is the strongest muscle in the body which beats, on average, between 60 and 80 times per minute, and pumps approximately four to five thousand gallons of blood every day.

Cardiovascular problems arise when the heart itself becomes damaged. Alternatively, the arteries which pump the blood from the heart to the rest of the body, or the veins which return the blood to the heart, can become diseased.
On an emotional level, this system represents our ability to handle emotions, especially grief and despair.
Baroque music is particularly helpful for the heart and circulatory system. It was written approximately between 1600 and 1750 when the violin reached its peak of development. Listening to music played by stringed instruments can greatly benefit the heart.
Baroque composers such as Bach, Handel and Vivaldi were concerned with expressing passionate emotions such as pain, sorrow, love and devotion. These motions are particularly relevant to heart issues.
Specific pieces are Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos for strengthening the heart and its rhythms, and his Fugue and Toccata in D Minor to release emotions; Handel’s Water Music to help the flow of blood when emotions have been blocked, and his Harp Concerto to calm anger and the feeling of pressure; and Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons for balance
Music written at later times can also be helpful for the heart and circulation. For example: Schubert’s C Major Symphony can stabilise the system; Beethoven’s 6th Symphony can free emotions and soothe aching hearts; and Debussy’s Claire de Lune can help to bring down high blood pressure.
Interestingly, music is being recognised as helpful in the medical world and Baroque music in particular is often played during heart surgery to facilitate the normalisation of heart rhythms.
