Digestion converts the food we eat into nutrients which are then absorbed by the body as fuel and energy. The stomach receives the food, and its acid converts the food into simpler forms. The small intestine then digests carbohydrates, fats, and proteins with help from the liver, pancreas, and gall bladder.

Emotions such as being overly critical or criticized, being dogmatic or a victim of dogmatism, being judgmental or judged and either being bullied or being a bully can all lead to digestive problems. For a healthy digestive system, we need to be willing to take in life and its opportunities and to swallow our experience. Issues here can also be an indication of trying to do things too quickly. Digestion takes time and must not be rushed.
Music from the Romantic Period is particularly beneficial for digestive issues. Written from the late 1700s to the early 1900s, it includes composers such as Liszt, Schubert, Brahms, and Rachmaninov.
To run smoothly, the digestive system needs to find its own rhythm and therefore rhythmic music such as waltzes and dances, can be very helpful. Indigestion, for example, can be eased by listening to Strauss’s Blue Danube or Brahms’ Liebslieder Waltzes. It can also be helpful to listen to Mozart’s Symphony no. 9 at mealtimes to promote healthy digestion.
Chamber Music can also be useful. Unlike an orchestra where many different instruments all work together to provide a homogeneous sound, each instrument in chamber music has its own role to play just as the different organs of the body all work tother but separately in the digestion process. Try Beethoven’s String Quartet in C major, opus 59, no. 3; Schubert’s Quintet in A major for piano, violin, viola, cello, and bass; and Mendelssohn’s Octet in E-flat major, opus 20.
