Cathy tells me to grab my guitar and bag the next time we stop.
Red traffic lights give us the opportunity we so desperately need. Jumping out of the cab, we hit the ground running.
Once we’ve caught our breath, we start hitchhiking back the way we’d come.
Soon after, the lorry driver reappears, looking furious. He raises his hand in a very rude gesture and speeds up, throwing road grit all over the two of us.
It’s a sobering moment. For the first time we realise how lucky we’ve been to escape. Things could have turned out so differently had Cathy not realised what he was planning.
I hug her to say thank you.
Then we laugh.
We’re safe.
The adventure continues …
