I spend the winter singing at the Café Theatre in Poitiers and writing songs and lyrics, some of them in French. They go down a storm and I am asked to sing in a music festival the following summer.
I’m over the moon. It’s the next step into the official music scene.
The festival is amazing. Singing in front of thousands of people is a new experience and I love every moment.
When I sing my French songs, the audience goes wild.
But at the same time, the adoration causes something to change. With no warning, my new friends transform either into sycophants or those with a desire to stab me in the back.
Suddenly, I no longer know who to trust.
Realising that I’m on tricky ground, I make a really difficult decision and turn down a record contract.
My friends try to change back into the way they were before, but the light has been shone upon them and there is no going back.
My sojourn in France has come to an end.
It’s time to return to England …
