As Easter approaches, we are encouraged to look at the subjects of death and rebirth. Nature has been dormant for the past few months. Now it is blooming back into life as we enter the start of the astronomical New Year.
That is if we let it.
The word Easter comes from Eostre, the Anglo Saxon goddess of spring and the moon.

Eostre was absorbed into Christianity by the seventh century scholar Bede who recorded the month of April as ‘Eostra-monath’. This became our modern Easter with its sacred symbols of the hare and the egg.
So, as we break into our Easter eggs and chocolate shaped bunnies on 20th April this year, let’s reflect on the rebirth of love that is central not only to Christians, but also to other religions.
Love, as they say, makes the world go round. Love and nature together give us a true home.
So, at this time of Easter, let’s die to war, hatred and greed and be reborn into hope and kindness. Perhaps then, we will see a world emerge in which both love and nature can bloom into the paradise Earth is meant to be; the nurturing mother and goddess of us all.
