The lunar cycle divides into two great movements: waxing, which carries us from New Moon to Full Moon, and waning, which returns us from Full Moon back to New Moon. Each movement holds its own wisdom, its own invitation.
The waxing phase also unfolds in two parts. During the first, the Waxing Crescent appears as a delicate sliver of light. In the second, the Waxing Gibbous Moon grows more substantial, its illuminated portion greater than a semicircle yet not quite full. The word ‘gibbous’ captures this in-between state perfectly: more than half, not yet whole. The crescent of light will be seen on the right hand side of the Moon in the waxing phase.
This is the geography of becoming.

The Energy of Expansion
If the waning phase asks us to turn inward, the waxing phase invites us to turn outward. This is the time for external action, visible effort, tangible movement towards our dreams. The growing light and rising energy of the Moon help us see more clearly and take decisive steps towards our goals.
What we planted in darkness during the New Moon now needs tending. What we whispered as intention now needs voice. What we dreamed in solitude now needs community, witnesses, the courage to be seen.
Following the Signs
During the waxing phase, pay attention. Watch for signs, synchronicities, and meaningful coincidences that align with what you set in motion during the New Moon. The universe speaks in whispers and winks, in unexpected meetings and serendipitous discoveries.
These aren’t random occurrences. They’re confirmations that you’re on the right path, encouragements to keep moving forward, breadcrumbs leading you towards your intention.
The Waxing Crescent: First Light
When you look up into the night sky and see that delicate crescent of light, it is time to act.
This sliver of illumination needs nurturing. Like seeds in a garden, it must be watered with belief, protected from doubt, given the conditions it needs to grow. To manifest our goals, we must stay aligned with our vision and trust that the light will continue to expand.

Now is the time to commit. Now is the time to spend your available energy wisely.
This phase asks for balance between being and doing. The being part of you holds the intention steady, keeps the vision clear, remembers why you started. The doing part takes concrete action, makes phone calls, sends emails, has difficult conversations, shows up even when it feels uncomfortable.
Both are essential. Neither alone is enough.

Strengthening Your Resolve
If confidence wavers, remind yourself of your intentions. Look at what you’ve already created and acknowledge how far you’ve come.
Stay true to yourself. Seek help when you need it. Ask for support. Share your dreams with people who believe in you. And above all: believe, believe, believe.
The Waxing Moon is teaching you that growth requires both patience and action, both trust and effort, both dreaming and doing.
The Waxing Gibbous: Becoming fuller
As the Moon swells towards the first quarter moon, energy intensifies. Momentum builds. What seemed impossible during the New Moon now feels within reach. What you could barely see in the darkness now stands illuminated before you.
This is when perseverance matters most. You’re so close. The temptation to give up, to doubt, to retreat back into darkness can feel overwhelming precisely because you’re on the threshold of breakthrough.
Stay with it. The light is growing. You are growing with it.
Practices for the Waxing Phase
- Create a clear, detailed plan for your vision
- Repeat your affirmations daily, especially when doubt creeps in
- Visualise your desired outcome during meditation
- Take one concrete action each day, however small
- Notice and record synchronicities in a journal
- Celebrate small wins and acknowledge progress
Questions to Ask Yourself
- What daily actions can I take that will help me manifest my dreams?
- Are there any niggling doubts that may be telling me to adjust my vision?
- How can I trust myself and the universe more deeply?
- How might I strengthen my belief that I can actually do this?
- Who can support me during this phase of visible growth?
Coming Out of the Dark
The waxing phase teaches us courage. It asks us to step out of the protective darkness and dare to be seen. To speak our truth. To claim our desires. To show the world who we’re becoming.
While this vulnerability can be frightening, it is essential. We cannot bloom in the dark or fulfil our potential in hiding. The light that’s growing in the sky mirrors the light that’s growing within.
So let yourself be seen. Let your dreams be witnessed. Let your intentions take form in the world. And let the Moon show you how.
